A Fairfax homeowner approached CoreTrade Electric, wanting to add light switches in remote locations and at the ends of hallways in their single-family home. They also wanted to upgrade their outlets to support USB charging.

Overview

smart electrical switches for home

Adding light switches and outlets in different locations throughout a home and down long hallways can require extensive drywall work, which increases the installation costs and time required. Fortunately, CoreTrade Electric had a better solution: smart switches and outlets that eliminated the need for drywall work while meeting the homeowner’s needs.

Project Details

Caseta smart electrical switches and outlets use wireless connectivity via radio frequency, which provides a more secure and direct connection compared to standard Wi-Fi.

The smart outlets were an excellent choice for this homeowner because they also included multiple USB ports, supporting both USB-C and USB-A, which eliminated the need for separate plug adapters. The entire system could be controlled remotely via a smartphone app.

Existing outlets were replaced with the new smart versions, allowing the homeowners to have versatile charging solutions without the need for bulky charging adapters, resulting in a neater appearance.

Outcome

By using smart switches and outlets for this project, CoreTrade Electric was able to:

  • Deliver better security for connectivity compared to Wi-Fi via radio frequency.
  • Ensure easy management of multiple devices and lighting scenarios for the homeowner.
  • Give the homeowner convenient remote control over their lighting through a smartphone app with the potential for energy savings.
  • Provide a versatile charging solution for various devices, such as phones and tablets, throughout the home.
  • Significantly reduce installation time and costs compared to traditional hardwiring methods.

By thinking creatively and leveraging modern technology, CoreTrade Electric was able to meet the homeowner’s needs for additional lighting control and charging capabilities while minimizing installation costs and home disruption.
